The Best LGBTQ+ Nightlife in Toronto, Compared: Church Street Dance Floors vs Neighbourhood Cocktail Bars

From Woody's and Crews & Tangos on Church Street to Sweaty Betty's, Farside and Bar Neon, here is how Toronto's top LGBTQ+ nights out compare and how to pick yours.

The Best LGBTQ+ Nightlife in Toronto, Compared: Church Street Dance Floors vs Neighbourhood Cocktail Bars Nightlife

Toronto's queer nightlife is centred on Church-Wellesley, but it is not limited to it. This guide compares real venues by what they do best, so you can pick the right night out.

For Big Dance Floors and Drag: Woody's, Sailor and Crews & Tangos

Woody's at 467 Church Street is the Village's best-known multi-room bar, open since 1989 and attached to sister club Sailor. Expect DJ nights, a popular patio and drag shows, with Saturday drag a staple. Crews & Tangos at 508 Church Street has been open since 1994 and is a two-floor drag venue with a different DJ upstairs; energy peaks Friday and Saturday around midnight, and the crowd skews younger. Resident Advisor's Toronto club guide also lists Crews & Tangos as a house-and-club venue with pop-heavy nights and drag shows.

For Something Lower-Key: Pegasus, The Churchmouse and The Drink

If you want to talk as much as dance, Pegasus On Church (489B Church Street) is a two-floor neighbourhood bar with pool tables, drag bingo, trivia and karaoke, with a relaxed, local crowd. The Churchmouse, a British-style Firkin pub on Church Street since 1987, is the low-key pub option with happy-hour pints. The Drink, a second-floor pizza-and-cocktail bar on Church Street, mixes DJ sets and drag with a patio and a food menu, which makes it a handy first stop.

For Cocktails Beyond the Village

Not every night out needs a drag stage. Sweaty Betty's at 13 Ossington Avenue is a small, loud cocktail bar with a dense, younger crowd and less of a circuit feel; it is also a 2026 first-time entry on Canada's 50 Best Bars list. Farside at 600 Gerrard Street East in Riverdale is a queer-owned cocktail bar with a dance-and-indie playlist and a design-forward room, while Bar Neon at 1226 Bloor Street West offers curated music and a quieter feel. Heading east, Avling Brewery on Queen Street East in Leslieville is a queer-friendly craft brewery with a community vibe.

For Community Events

Glad Day Bookshop, billed as the world's oldest surviving LGBTQ+ bookshop, runs author readings and community events with a café and bar (it has operated from a temporary location, so check its site for the current address). Buddies in Bad Times Theatre at 12 Alexander Street is a queer performance venue with late-night events and post-show parties.

How to Choose

Want a big night with drag and a dance floor? Start at Woody's or Crews & Tangos and arrive before midnight to avoid the longest lines. Visiting with friends who want to chat? Try Pegasus or The Churchmouse. Want craft cocktails and a stylish room? Go west to Sweaty Betty's, Bar Neon or east to Farside. Hours, themed nights and cover charges change often, so check each venue's social channels before you head out, and always plan a safe ride home.
